It all started when…

Shannon Hassell (BM Voice/Education, Hardin-Simmons University)- Shannon grew up in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, where she began her music journey in piano, band (oboe and flute), and choir. While at Hardin-Simmons, she was an active member and officer of Sigma Alpha Iota, inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda, and participated in the School of Music’s opera and choral programs. After graduation, Shannon taught choir and theater in a public middle school in Northwest ISD. She grew the choir program from 15 students to 90 in four years. Her students consistently earned Superior Ratings at Solo & Ensemble, made the Middle School All-Region Choir and earned Superior Ratings in sight-reading at UIL contest. Then, Shannon established a private voice studio in the Texas panhandle in her home and at Plainview High School, where her students earned top ratings in Solo & Ensemble contests, advanced in All-Region and All-State auditions, and earned college music scholarships. She taught Pre-K through 12th grade at Ambleside School of San Angelo for one year and then resumed teaching private lessons. Shannon now resides in Kyle, with her husband and two children. She is actively involved in teaching youth Sunday School, singing and playing in the praise team, singing in the choir and leading various ministries throughout the year at Westoak Woods Baptist Church, Austin, TX, where her husband is the pastor.
